Italian Dinner Party

Last Friday night, Susannah and I organized an Italian Dinner night for all the college students and young adults in our church. It was a lot of fun! Here are some of the pictures.

My trip to Cuzco/Machu Picchu

I arrived home from Peru about a week ago. At the end of my stay in Peru, I and some other interns went on a long trip to see Machu Picchu, one of the seven archeological wonders of the world. I can't even describe how beautiful it was. These are just a few of the many pictures I took. We had to travel by bus, train, plane, taxi...etc just to get to Machu Picchu but it was all worth it!

I had my camera out the whole time snapping shots constantly! It was an incredible experience! I still can't believe the beauty I was surrounded with while there.

I'm glad to be home and yet I miss Peru and the people at Sali :(

Coffee House and More

Last Thursday, SALI had a coffee house event! We decorated with lights and candles. There was food, music and lot's of fellowship! The place was packed full as you can see.

I gave my students 3 points extra credit if they came to the coffee house. These are 5 of my 11 students.

I tutor Gladys for one hour after class everyday. Sometimes I practice my Spanish with her:)

This was youth group last Saturday. We sang lot's of songs. It was fun!

I leave Trujillo next Thursday. We are traveling by bus to Lima and then catching a plane to Cusco to see Machu Picchu! After Cusco, we travel back to Lima and then the long flight home to the United States.

Next set of pictures will be from Machu Picchu. Yipee!!!!

I love Peru

I've been in Peru for a month and two weeks now. I don't miss the States at all yet. I just finished grading my students final exams. They all passed!

These are pictures from Chan Chan, some ruins about 30 minutes from Trujillo. Two weekends ago, all students and teachers from SALI went on a field trip to Chan Chan. It was a great opportunity for students and teachers to get to know each other a little better and also to learn some history.

There was a Pollata (church picnic) at Larco church today! There was a lot of food! We had to peel a huge bucket of potatoes.

Teaching starts again on Tuesday. We are taking Monday off to celebrate July 4th! It'll be strange not having fireworks. We'll have to do something. Maybe light a few candles and sing some Independence Day songs! Tomorrow, I'm going to Huanchaco beach again! I'm hoping to purchase some souvenirs there.

I just finished my second week of teaching! My students just took their quiz today and I have to grade them over the weekend. We had a large group at Sali for RUF Bible study this evening! Tomorrow, all students and teachers are going on a field trip to Chan, Chan. It's a tour of some ruins about 45 minutes from here.

This is my room. I share it with Sarah L. All the girls live in a nice apartment about a 20 min walk from SALI.

Michelle, Rebecca and Katie are three of the summer interns. They're so much fun!

I went around the room and said "ok everybody show me your teacher face!" So here's Michelle and Matt.

Peru pictures

Sarah and I on the long 5 hour plane flight to Peru. Don't we look tired but excited!

This is my first day in Trujillo at the Plaza de Armas!

Our plane flew into Lima around 11:00pm so Caleb and Sarah Joy met us at the airport along with all the other interns and took us to a hotel. The next day we spent touring Lima. This is a beautiful plaza area that our tour bus stopped at!

We went inside this huge Catholic church. It was beautiful!

I ordered Cebiche! My first time to taste Octopus and clam....yum, yum!!!

Spring Break

About a month ago, Car and Kath came to a beach near by with their track team on spring break! I got to go see them on their last day at the beach!! It was so good to catch up while basking in the sun!

And of course many of you know I went to visit Elaine in ID on my spring break! It was a wonderful week and I fell in love with Moscow! The people were wonderful and so friendly. I'm quite jealous of Elaine's social life!

I got to meet many of Elaine's sweet friends and go to all her fun classes with her.

Elaine took me to a Bagel sandwich restaurant near the college! I never dreamed bagel sandwiches would be so delicious!!!!

Weird Morning

As I was about to leave for school this morning, my Nutrition teacher called me and told me that she was sick and wouldn't be able to teach this morning. She asked me if I would go over the review questions for the midterm and basically lead the class. I said ok but I was thinking WHY in the world did she choose me to do this??? I don't have fantastic grades in Nutrition and there are certainly other students in the class that have much better grades and understand the material better than I. I guess because I always pay attention in class and maybe I look responsible to her! It went ok....one of the guys in class helped me out a little!

I'm loving this warm weather we are having here in Florida! There are several people on campus with their books spread out on the grass studying! I do hope that we get a little more cold weather before the winter is over. I still have some winter sweaters that I haven't been able to wear yet.

I've got Microbiology in 10 minutes....so chow!

I got accepted to Peru Missions! So I will be leaving around May 23-25 and won't be back until the end of July! I can't wait. God has given me such an awesome opportunity to serve him this summer. Teaching English to spanish students is a little intimidating but I know that once I get the hang of it, I'll be fine! I'm so happy Sarah will be going with me and also that Caleb will already be there!
